The JumpStart! Story
JumpStart! Owner and Founder Ryan Bohlander has a lifelong commitment to health, fitness, and physical activity. After an active childhood filled with baseball and soccer, he was an All-Arizona distance runner for the state champion Dobson High School Track and Field team (1991) and was a varsity letter winner in both Track and Cross Country at the University of Arizona (1992-1995).
Following an athletic youth, Ryan earned his MBA from Arizona State University and was a management and organizational consultant for several Fortune 500 corporations. After the birth of his daughter, Riley, and with the encouragement of his wife, Tara, Ryan was motivated to explore a career where he could contribute to the health and fitness of young children.
With the help of friends and family in and around the fitness industry, Ryan created JumpStart! Kids Fitness as a vehicle for addressing the increasing trends of inactivity and obesity among small children. In addition to founding JumpStart!, Ryan earned his Children’s Fitness Certification from the American Fitness Professionals and Associates (AFPA) organization. He is currently working with the South Mountain Park Health Center to establish a community action plan addressing the alarming increase of childhood obesity in the Phoenix area.
Ryan still plays adult soccer, softball, golf, and runs regularly. He completed the Sedona Marathon in February of 2009 (his 8th marathon), currently serves as a personal coach to adults training for their first marathon, and also coaches his daughter’s soccer team.
